About

The company

EGM Family Holdings Ltd is an independent company based in the North West of England, working with clients across the United Kingdom and internationally. It holds three divisions: EGM Software, which designs and builds bespoke systems; EGM AI, which deploys local and cloud AI systems; and EGM Education and Training, which teaches people to work with both.

Each draws on the other two. The AI division deploys onto infrastructure the company runs itself; the software division builds the systems those deployments sit in; the training division teaches what both have learned by doing. The three trade under EGM while each establishes itself. As a division proves itself it will be incorporated as a company in its own right, with its own name and domain. The terms published on this site apply to all three.

Principles

Evidence at every stage

Every stage of every engagement closes on a document a client can read: test counts, log citations, review findings. Confidence is shown, not asserted.

The client owns the result

Fixed fee, staged payment, intellectual property transferring at completion, and a handover designed so that the client never needs the company again unless it chooses to.

Code and data stay within written boundaries

Client code stays on the company's own infrastructure. Client data goes only where a written boundary allows. A model acts only within a gateway that records what it did.

Only what has been seen to work

The company builds and runs AI systems daily and is precise about what they do. It does not sell what it has not seen work.

A person decides

A person is in the loop wherever a decision lands on someone. Uncontrolled automation is not offered as a strategy to anyone.

Terms and method are published

The terms, the method and the catalogue are published. A client can read how the company works before deciding whether to work with it.

Ethics

Each EGM business is built from the core on ethically aligned goals: ecological aims that are restorative and regenerative, not merely less harmful; governance and practice that are socially responsible; and community engagement that lifts the people involved.

EGM is a for-profit company with commitments that are not for profit. They are listed here in plain terms so that clients, contractors and the people we work with can hold us to them.

Capacity for those who cannot pay

A significant proportion of the company's active revenue-earning capacity is given, or leased at a nominal rate, to organisations that need what we build and teach but cannot afford it at our commercial terms. Schools, public services and small and medium-sized businesses have priority.

Supported work is delivered to the same standard, under the same method and with the same evidence as paid work. There is no reduced tier. If you think your organisation qualifies, write to us with a short description of the need and your circumstances, and we will tell you whether we can take it on and when.

Respect for the individual

Everyone we work with is treated with sincere respect as an individual: clients, contractors, trainees, partners and the people who use what we build. In practice that means honest terms, honest evidence, prompt replies, and no one spoken to as a category rather than a person.

Independent workers, fairly paid

The company is built around independent workers who control their own time and their own earnings. Internal staff are kept to a minimum. The saving is shared two ways: lower prices for clients, and a larger share of the profit for the contractors and staff who do the work.

Written into the articles

The commitment to ethical business practice will be written into the company's articles of association, not only into this page. It will bind the company and its directors, and it will not change when the people do.

Carbon offset at 150%

Each year the company measures the carbon its operations generate and donates to offset one and a half times that amount.

Proceeds to charitable work

The founder is committed to using the proceeds of his for-profit businesses to open charitable organisations in communities where the needs of the people who live there are not being met. This is a personal commitment that sits alongside the company's, and it is stated here because it is part of why the company exists.

Schools, public services and small businesses that need our services and cannot afford them at commercial rates can apply by writing to the company. Say who you are, what you need and why the commercial terms are out of reach.
